Obama leads us on a voyage through Gunung Leuser

A new Netflix documentary series narrated by Barack Obama reveals the majesty of Gunung Leuser National Park,  one of our legacy landscapes.

In the fifth instalment of Our Great National Parks, former US president Obama takes us from forest to coast to uncover Gunung Leuser’s breathtaking biodiversity.

The episode tells the story of several animals living in Leuser, from a wily male orangutan battling for dominance, to a young Thomas leaf monkey trying to find his way in the world. Throughout the journey, we glimpse the impossibly elusive Sumatran tiger, watch as the zany mudskipper fish fights for its dinner, and learn about the world’s biggest flower.

While the episode merely scratches the surface of Leuser’s beauty, it serves as a powerful reminder of why we need to protect these landscapes. The five-part miniseries traverses the continents to explore some of the world’s most spectacular protected areas, including Kenya’s Tsavo National Park and Chilean Patagonia.

Our Great National Parks was launched in conjunction with a new campaign called Wild For All, a collaborative initiative by Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), Freeborne Impact, and Higher Ground. The series can be streamed on Netflix.
