UN Report Highlights LLF’s Safeguards System
In a newly published report by the United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commissioners (OHCHR), LLF’s approach to social and environmental safeguards is cited as exemplary for development institutions across the world.

In last month’s Benchmarking Study of Development Finance Institutions’ Safeguard Policies, the OHCHR addresses the challenges of maintaining high human rights and environmental standards when financially supporting sustainable development and poverty reduction.
The report is a much-needed in-depth examination of the many risks entailed in development finance and how to best mitigate these challenges to protect societies and the environment.
The study outlines best practice precedents in approaching critical issues such as land rights, value chain risk management, and human rights assessment. LLF’s recently completed Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) is highlighted within the document as a key framework within the conservation sector.
LLF’s safeguards system is a recognition of the inherent risks and impacts that conservation has on society, people and ecosystems. Our thoroughly devised ESMS demonstrates our commitment to implementing safeguards that mitigate these risks and impacts insofar as is possible.
