Conducting environmental and social due diligence (ESDD) is an integral part of LLF’s funding decision process. The purpose of the ESDD is to evaluate if existing site-specific environmental and social safeguard procedures are in compliance with LLF’s standards. LLF’s environmental and social standards are spelled out in our environmental and social management system (ESMS), and were created to avoid, mitigate, manage and/or remedy risks and impacts resulting from management of the proposed legacy landscapes.  

The ESDD identifies environmental and social risks, gaps, and shortages. As part of the process, an environmental and social action plan (ESAP) is developed to address the identified gaps and risks, including outlining specific responsibilities and timelines. Implementation of the ESAP is monitored by LLF’s environmental and social safeguards team.  

ESDDs only provide a snapshot in time and risk categorization refers to the risk status before the implementation of the mitigation measures spelled out in the ESAP.
